Melvin Robbins, 1918-1999
The Paintings of Mel Robbins can be seen throughout many institutions in the Boston area. A graduate of Boston University, 1939 and the Massachusetts Art School, 1941. Mel Robbins has devoted much of his art career to painting portraits of prominent persons in the Boston area. Many of his paintings grace the walls of Harvard University, Harvard Law School, University of Massachusetts (Harbor Campus), Lesley College, Children's Hospital / Medical Center, New England Medical Center, Massachusetts State House, City Hall - City of Cambridge, Mass. There are many additional individual commissions painted by Mel Robbins during his years in the Boston area.
Mr. Robbins became a courtroom sketch artist during the late 1970s abd worked for various newspapers and television stations during this time. He received the coveted Emmy ® Award for his news coverage on
WBZ-TV 4 News in 1978-1979. Some of those courtroom "sketches" are pictured below with links to larger images and descriptions of each piece.
Mel Robbins was the only artist that I have ever seen who went into a courtroom with a canvas and brush to paint what other artists sketched on pads. All of these paintings were done in the courtroom during preceedings.
This artwork is being offered for sale in behalf of the Estate of Melvin Robbins and all items will come with an original certificate of authenticity.
