CIVIL WAR BATTLE SCENE 2002 Custom designed cel by Greg Gongaware of the Civil War Union Soldiers. Greg S. Gongaware is a 1996 graduate of the Visual Arts Program from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He majored in humorous illustration and cartooning. In 1999, Greg created a business called The Historic Animation Station, putting a unique twist on American history through his art. It features Greg’s original and limited edition animation cels of important events in American history. The animation cel features real photographic backgrounds of the actual historic site where the historic event unfolded. A traditional animation overlay is applied to bring to life a snapshot of our nation’s past as never seen before. The cels depict events from Colonial America, The American Revolution, and The American Civil War. Greg has donated several original pieces to preservation organizations who have used his artwork to raise money to save and preserve our nation’s battlefields, monuments, and historic sites. In 2000, Greg’s original illustrations were chosen as cover art for “Lee and His Generals, the Ultimate Trivia Book.” This book was authored by Wendy Sauers, who Greg has had numerous book signings with at the National Military Visitor’s Center in Gettysburg, PA. Greg was the first illustrator to sign books and display his artwork at the National Military Visitor’s Center in Gettysburg. Greg has also displayed his artwork at Civil War events and reenactments from New York to West Virginia. He participates in gallery openings with some of the top names in military art. The exhibitions Greg participated in include: the 4th and 5th annual History Meets the Arts, Remembrance Day Gallery Events, and The All Originals Exhibition. Aside from gallery shows, Greg has designed and illustrated a children’s book on the Alamo, published by Thomas Publications. He has also been commissioned to provide the cover illustrations for a White Mane Publishing young adult book series entitled, “The Gettysburg Ghost Gang.” Recently, Greg has begun to illustrate and manufacture his own product. His artwork can be found on historically accurate book markers which feature his original caricature illustrations. The book markers have been accepted by the Eastern National Bookstores of America. They supply America’s National Visitor Centers with the best in educational and historically accurate merchandise. The book markers have been a sell out item at the National Military Visitor’s Center in Gettysburg, and reorders have been made. |
